The Meditation Mandate

I. What is Meditation?

It's a command of God. Psalm 46:10
What is it not?
Not a new revelation: 2 Timothy 3:16-17
A chance to focus, slow down and see the long view of God's Will.

II. How can we meditate?

Time: The only irreplaceable resource . You must learn how to manage it properly or you will be overwhelmed by the cares of this world.
The Lord’s Supper is a time of meditation. However, outside noises, inner cravings can distract us.
Communion is a respite as well as a struggle with self.

Practical tips for meditation.
Cool your mind: Let go of strife, leave it at work
Hone your body. Slow down and breathe. Tai Chi.
Humble yourself- James 4:10
Envelope your senses. Carnival of the Animals: VI. Aquarium, incense, low light, posture.
See God's Word. Hear the speaker. Taste the goodness. Touch the promise. Smell the incense.


III. We must meditate

Find material that helps your focus. 1 Corinthians 9:24.
A daily walk- Joshua 1:8 Do not conform- Romans 12:2a
Pray for wisdom and insight. 1 Philippians 1:9-10


Conclusion: Slow down and breathe. God is all powerful. God is willing to help if you are willing to change by surrending yourself in baptism.
