The Spider's Web

I do not know who originated this concept but they should be given a Nobel Prize. Tonight our church participated in an excellent visual display called a “Spiders’ Web.” It takes some effort and planning but the results are incredibly encouraging.

To make one you first need a tennis ball and a spool of yarn. Wrap the yarn around the tennis ball to make it easy to toss while providing plenty of string. Find a space which can accommodate your group and set up chairs in a circle. On a designated time someone who is a familiar spokesman for the group should make comments on how we are interconnected and then explain the theme of the event.

The speaker will begin the web by pointing to a member of the group and stating an act or attitude they have which is encouraging. The speaker will then tie the string around his fingers and toss it to that person. Once that person is selected it is best to not have that person mentioned again, this will prevent duplication no matter how well intentioned the affection may be. That person will in turn announce another person and toss it to them and so on. Within a few minutes you will have a large spiders’ web effectively and beautifully demonstrating the value of each tender moment in our lives.
