6. Describe your childhood.
My father was in the delivery business. We travelled all the time. I got to see much of the country and I developed a fondness for learning.
7. What did you enjoy doing as a child?
Reading any book I could get my hands on.
8. What is your earliest memory?
Playing tag with my brother Thomas.
9. How old were you when you went on your first date and where did you go?
14. I went for a walk a girl named Cathy on a school outing. We ended up getting lost.
10. Married?
I wed Martha Rhoda Standish on April 11, 1892.
11. How did you meet your spouse?
Martha was in the library at Parady University. She was in a study room. I saw her through the window and sat across the table from her.
We didn't speak for almost an hour. Finally, she said, "Bold, aren't we?" She thought I was arrogant, but my charm won the day.

16. What brought you to Eagle Creek?
I was a growing tired of the busy city life in Portland, Oregon. My younger step-brother is Senator Clegghorn. He recommended Eagle Creek. He'd been in town on a business trip and thought it would be a better place to raise Alma.

Comptroller for the town of Eagle Creek
19. What was your first job?
My first job was taking tickets at the Grand Pacifica Theater in Portland.
20. How much did you make?
Fifteen cents an hour.
21. What is your favorite word?
Forgiveness
22. What are you doing now?
Reviewing last year's budget, contrasting it with this year's, attempting to find some more money for the park. The ballfield needs a lot of work.
23. Do you admire a famous person?
Joseph Jefferson
24. What makes them admirable?
He was a noted American actor popular for his role as Rip Van Winkle. He spoke at the Grand Pacifica. Not only was he a magnificent orator, he was one of the most humble men I'd ever met.
25. What is your favorite food?
Peach cobbler

Yellow
27. What is your favorite song? Joy to the World by Isaac Watts

Stamp collecting, model ship building
29. Name of the last book you read? What's Wrong with the World by G. K. Chesterton
30. Tell me about a memorable moment in your life; a time you will never forget.
My parents divorced when I was ten. My father married his secretary who brought with her a younger son. That was a difficult adjustment.
31. What things do you find yourself doing that you said you'd never do?
Eating crow. That first town council meeting was almost my last. I had too little faith in my fellow citizenry. I did not enjoy making a fool of myself but I am certainly grateful that our new mayor saw beyond my weakness in personality.
32. What are the goals you are still working toward?
I would like to avoid a utilities tax increase for 1910, I think we'll make it.
33. When people look back at your life, how do you want to be remembered?
As a man who was dedicated to uncovering the facts.

"There are no small parts, only small actors." - I'm not sure who first said that.

No.

Balancing the books.

Self doubt

Tripping over my own pride.
40. What is there about you that would surprise people if they found out?
I barely graduated college. I was not a natural born accountant, it's something I had to pick up over the years.
