Doing an inventory of the indigent aid room. I have no idea how we ended up with sixteen cans of buttered beans.

Tell It To Jesus by Edmund Simon Lorenz. That song was originally written in German. I've always wanted to hear it sung that way.

26. Name of the last book you read?
The First Men in the Moon by Herbert George Wells
27. Tell me about a memorable moment in your life; a time you will never forget.
The day my momma got to meet her grandson. She was so happy and proud. She brought a little blue blanket and some botties that she had made herself.
We talked for a couple of hours. She held the baby and cried because it reminded her of me. I wanted her to stay because I didn't have much training in taking care of the baby but she said she had a party to go to River City. That was the last time I saw her.
Two months later, Julius and Rev. and Mrs. Litchfield came to my house one morning. Mrs. Litchfield said she would take care of the baby because Julius, Rev. Litchfield and me had to make a trip to River City.
I broke down crying because I knew what that meant. My mother never let me go to River City because she wanted to keep that side of her life private. "Too many friends up there" she would say.
The River City Police had found a dead prostitute in an alleyway. I was the only one who could identify the body. My mother was an only child and her parents died a long time ago, so I was the only living relative.
Momma had this sad look on her face. I'm sure it was because she saw the killer take the locket which she always wore. It had my picture in it and a rose petal. She always said that it wouldn't matter to her in a thief stole her purse because she could earn more money. The locket meant the world to her because it was her only momento of beauty in this world.
28. What things do you find yourself doing that you said you'd never do?
Wishing I was in school. I am trying to learn book learning from Mrs. Litchfield and baking from Mrs. Clementine.
29. What are the goals you are still working toward?
I'd like ot be rich someday so I can help out girls who grew up rough like me.
30. When people look back at your life, how do you want to be remembered?
As a charitable and kind person.
31. What is your favorite outdoor activity?
I like to go out on the backporch and watch rain storms.
32. Do you attend church or religious services?
I attended Eagle Creek Methodist. I've got to sit in the back and not talk to too many people, especially men.
33. What is your favorite Bible verse?
Psalm 23 . I like that "He restoreth my soul" part.
34. What makes you happy?
Talking to Mrs. Litchfield, she's like the mother I should've had.
35. What makes you sad?
Knowing that my mother will not get to see me straighten out my life. Knowing that my little baby is gone to Heaven and I won't see him either.
36. What frightens you?
People whispering about me.
37. What is there about you that would surprise people if they found out?
Sometimes, I get to raise and lower the flag at the park. I always like doing that.
