(Karen Fry is the wife of the new mayor of Eagle Creek)

1. Name: Karen Sylvia Jared Fry

2. Date of Birth: October 7, 1890

3. Place of Birth: Missoula, Montana

4. Parents: Allen and Cammie Jared

5. Siblings: David Keith (1893-), Isabella Fiorella (1895-), Mary Grace (1899-), Emily Marie (1902-)

6. Describe your childhood. My parents ran a restaurant in Missoula. I grew up working there.

7. What did you enjoy doing as a child? Singing for tips to the guests at the restaurant.

8. What is your earliest memory? Helping my mother stir a pot of beans.

9. How old were you when you went on your first date and where did you go? 14. David Ludwig took me to a play.

10. Married? October 11, 1909, Hubert Fry

11. How did you meet your spouse? I was a waitress at the Straight Cafe. Hubert was in preaching school. He came in to get a sandwich before studying all day.

We ended up talking most of the day. He completely forgot about the test.

14. Pets? I've never had any pets. I tried to feed a rat once but my mother stopped me before he got too close.

15. Education: South Missoula High School, class of 1908

16. What brought you to Eagle Creek? Hubert was offered a pastorship here. I love this townl.

19. What was your first job? Singing for tips at the Silver Star Cafe in Missoula.

20. How much did you make? Usually about fifty cents a night.

21. What is your favorite word? Redemption

22. What are you doing now? Trying to decide what to wear to Hubert's inaguaration.

23. Do you admire a famous person? Governor Edwin L. Norris

24. What makes them admirable? He and his group had dinner at the Silver Star one night. Nice guy and a big tipper.

25. What is your favorite food? Strawberry pie

26. What is your favorite color? Pink

27. What is your favorite song? Get Right With God by Will McEwan

28. Hobbies: I like flying kites.

29. Name of the last book you read? Invasion of the Sea by Jules Verne

30. Tell me about a memorable moment in your life; a time you will never forget. I was so smitten by Hubert. He was so smart and sophisticated. I thought he was studying to be a banker or a lawyer.

When he said he was studying to be a preacher, I was sorely disappointed. I'd been to St. Jude's Catholic Church back in Missoula to cater weddings but other than that, I'd never really been to church.

Our first few dates were Bible studies. After my baptism, we began courting.

Our first kiss was only after Rev. Lopez said "I now pronounce you man and wife."


31. What things do you find yourself doing that you said you'd never do? Getting into religion and/or politics. I've gone head first into both in a little under a year.

32. What are the goals you are still working toward? I'd like to be more like a preachers' wife than an eigthteen-year-old girl playing dress up on Sunday morning.

33. When people look back at your life, how do you want to be remembered? As the respected wife of a good mayor and preacher.

35. Do you attend church or religious services? That's more or less a requirement these days. Eagle Creek Baptist Church.

36. What is your favorite Bible verse? Proverbs 31

37. What makes you happy? Seeing others succeed when the odds are against them.

38. What makes you sad? Forgetting to say something I should have said.

39. What frightens you? Doing something dumb that puts my husband's reputation in danger.

40. What is there about you that would surprise people if they found out? I used to think Ecclesiastes was the name of a prophet.
